'Weird Animals' in Hong Kong - Volvo B9TL (two-axis with Wright Eclipse Gemini, and three-axis with Volgren body)

In the animal world, there is lot of amazing things, such as trees, bees, snakes, pigs, etc. It's the same in the world of buses, but one thing is very different from the animal world, are 'weird animals'(怪獸).

So what's a 'weird animal'? It is a special member in the bus fleet. Today our 'special member' is Volvo B9TL from Kowloon Motor Bus(AVBWS1, AVD1) and Citybus (7500).

Kowloon Motor Bus

Intro

KMB's first B9TL arrived when it's July, 2003. It's the second B9TL chassis in the world. The chassis was there to test KMB's 'Eco-dricelime'. When it's Vehicle licence is expire in 15th December, 2004. Volvo took it to Australia to change the engine. It's back at 2006 and serve in Hong Kong again.

The chassis the mostly the same with Volvo Super Olympian, the engine is Volvo home made Volvo D9A(Euro IV) engine, with ZF 6HF592C gear box.When that bus is in Australia, Volvo change the engine(Volvo D9B, Euro V) and add a Adblue fuel tank.

Volgren body from Australia bulit on this Volvo B9TL , incide, the seat is Vogelsize system 400/6.

Serving Hong Kong Citizens

It's number plate is LJ7006(Before it went to Australia) and MF5119(present,depot L[Lai Chi Kok]), it's sometimes appear in route 42A.

Intro

When the first Alexander Dennis Enviro 400 allow to come to Hong Kong, Volvo provide 2 Volvo B9TL(2 axis) with Wright Eclipse Gemini II body  (Coach builder in Northern Ireland) o both KMB and CTB, It arrived in August, 2010. (More Deteils please read 7500's (Citybus) intro.)

chassis

The chassis the mainly the same with 3-axis Volvo chassis, and it's 'brother' B9TL in Citybus; it have a Volvo D9B engine(Euro V), with ZF 6AP1403B8 gear box.

Wright Eclipse Gemini Body (Coach builder in Northern Ireland) is built on this Volvo B9TL.

This bus's seats is totally different from Citybus. Kowloon Motor Bus has been KOs for putting this bus' seats, this is because this bus is not 12m long. 

The seats use product from Vogelsitze system, but the product they use is not the same with 12-meters B9TLs, this 2-axis B9TL used 400/4 from Vogelsitze system.

It's number plate is PP 9062(present), it belongs to depot(K)(Kowloon Bay).It's always appear on route 606, 606A

Citybus

Intro

The last time that Citybus bought in Volvo products are about 1999, after Citybus bought in Volvo B6LE and some Volvo Olympian. When Dennis Dragon and Leyland Olympian start to get very old, Citybus need to some new fleet. But Volvo don't have any new products yet, so they Alexander Dennis for help. It's a success for Enviro 400(Product of Alexander Dennis Enviro Series) to alive in Hong Kong, but not B9TL, this is because B9TL is very heavy(19 Tons, some parts[Air-conditioning] and 5 seat is removed), that's why there is two Volvo B9TL in Hong Kong.

It's the same with Kowloon Motor Bus' B9TL, with Volvo's own product Volvo D9B engine(Euro V), and ZF 6AP1403B8 gear box.
